Jail and Prison Ministries

Are you called to a ministry with prisoners? Would you like to initiate a jail or prison ministry in your congregation? Here are examples of local ministries that may spark some ideas. A contact person is listed for each, so you can learn more.

Backyard Mosaic Women’s Project
The Backyard Mosaic Women’s Project (BMWP) provides a safe place for women who are recreating their lives after incarceration to gather, to heal, to grow, to develop their artistic skills and participate in the creation of community-based public art. This project was an outgrowth of MAJM.

Madison Area Jail Ministry
The Madison Area Jail Ministry (MAJM) provides the Chaplains for the Dane County Jail in Madison, Wisconsin. The Jail Chaplains are fully funded by contributions to the Madison Area Jail Ministry.

Prison Ministry Project
The Prison Ministry Project is a pastoral ministry of word and sacrament for prisoners inside the walls. An outreach ministry of the United Church of Christ, its challenge is to serve prisoners, victims and their families, engage the wider church in prison issues and to be an advocate for prison reform.
