A message from Rev. Roy Lowes URC South Western Synod

The South Western Synod of the United Reformed Church
in the United Kingdom, is delighted to be in partnership with the Wisconsin Conference of
the UCC and to have been so for 15 years. Both Churches continue to be enriched by the
experiences shared as a UCC Minister visits the URC in March and a URC
Minister returns in October. The two churches come out of similar
Reformed/Congregational stock. We have much in common but the emphasis of our Church
styles and order are subtly different, as are our cultures.
The URC is attempting to assert a faithfulness to the mission of the church in a situation
of numerical church decline in the UK. In the partnership amongst many other things,
we can draw on the UCC's greater strengths and imaginative projects and models whilst we
can share the wisdom's of our struggles from an
environment of peculiar difficulty yet to be experienced in Wisconsin, and the projects
and models that we are adopting. But in any event the friendships built in the context of
a shared faith over the miles, shared desire for the Kingdom and shared ecumenical
endeavor in the service of Christ are incalculably valuable. We rejoice in them.
