Rev. Michael Obenauer

Rev. Michael Obenauer serves as the Interim Conference Minister for the Wisconsin Conference UCC.

Michael comes to us with a wealth of experience and skills that are uniquely suited to the needs of our Conference at this time. He also brings a deep, personal faith in God's continuing work in the world, a spirit of hope and joy, and a great love for the church of Jesus Christ.

Born and raised in South Dakota, Michael is a graduate of South Dakota State University, and United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities. Ordained in the UCC 36 years ago, Michael served churches in the Midwest (Kansas, Minnesota, Illinois) for 25 years before becoming an Associate Conference Minister of the Montana-Northern Wyoming Conference, serving there nine years. Michael most recently served as the Interim Senior Minister of Manhattan Beach Community Church (UCC) in Southern California.

Michael has participated in the life of the wider church as a member of the Board of Directors of the Office for General Ministries, the corporate board of United Church Board for Homeland Ministries, a God Is Still Speaking Trainer, and General Synod Delegate.

Michael brings to us his experience as a pastor of small and large churches, as well as his experience on the Conference staff in Montana. While on that staff, Michael worked with the Conference to navigate through a change in Conference Minister three times -- an experience that will help us in our transition here.

Michael's spouse, Bobbie, is a retired librarian, and Michael and Bobbie have children and grandchildren in Chicago and Wyoming. "The Beagles" (their two dogs), they say, allow Michael and Bobbie to share their home with them. Together Bobbie and Michael enjoy travel, music, drama, and musical theater.
