Youth/ Young Adult Trip to
Chiapas Mexico
August 3 - 13, 2008

Who:
Any senior high or college aged youth/young adults wishing to participate in a global experience (Spanish is not necessary)
What: A delegation of working, playing and learning together. We will work on some of the buildings at INESIN in the mornings to help them assure its long term self- sufficiency.
We will create links with local youth in Chiapas, sharing experiences and thinking about the reality of the diversity in our contexts.
Where:
Our host will be INESIN (Institute for Intercultural Studies and Research) which is located in San Cristobal de Las
Casas, Chiapas Mexico. We will visit some Indigenous communities in the surrounding area, Mayan ruins, and sights in the city of San
Cristobal.
When:
We will most likely meet at O’Hare airport on Sunday, August 3 in the evening and take the redeye out that night, We will arrive in Chiapas on Monday in the early afternoon and return in the evening of August 13.
Cost:
$2000*, This is all inclusive. Roundtrip airfare from Chicago, all ground transportation, lodging and meals in Mexico, professional translation, orientation and reunion retreats.
$150 non-refundable commitment deposit needed by 2/28/2008.
*Once registered, fundraising ideas will be provided to help with the cost of the trip. Participants are also encouraged to check with their conference or association to see if scholarship money is available.
LEADERSHIP:
Rev. Rebecca Johnston lived in Chiapas in the early 1990’s as a mission volunteer through the United Church of Christ. She is currently serving as pastor of St. John’s UCC in rural Elkhart Lake, WI. She has been involved in the Mexico partnership for over 15 years.
Rev. Kelly Stone, Campus Chaplain for Lakeland College. She has chaperoned many other mission trips with youth and young adults. She is a recent graduate of Yale Divinity School and has a passion for peace and justice issues.
John Anderson, is currently a PHD candidate in Ethics at the Loyola University in Chicago. He has coordinated youth volunteers for housing projects in North Carolina and is very interested in mission and theology.
