Welcome to the Southwest Wisconsin Association of the Wisconsin Conference of the United Church of Christ!
The heart of our life as the Southwest Association is our congregations. Our Association is made up of fifty local churches, from the small but mighty rural congregation, to the caring church in a small town, to the congregations serving more urban contexts in Madison and Janesville. We serve also through specialized ministries such as campus ministry, hospice and hospital chaplaincy, nursing homes and senior residences, and social service support for young people.
Through our congregations, pastors, and lay leaders, the Southwest Association is a “community of leaders” that connects and supports the ministries of our local churches and acts as a bridge to the wider Wisconsin Conference and United Church of Christ. We serve leaders and congregations through the Division of Church and Ministry, which has oversight of leadership development for authorized minsters in particular. We unite with colleagues and fellow members throughout the state through participation in international partnerships, Communities of Practice, youth and Confirmation ministries, the Lay Academy, and many other common ministries in our state.
The Southwest Association has a tradition of fellowship and hospitality, and for many years interest groups have formed based on common interest or study. We’ve got book studies on everything from Barth to the feminists, and you’re encouraged to make connections and join in.
If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to be in contact with me. The best way to reach me is by email at email@example.com. My phone is 608-630-2992. I work out of my home office in Madison and also schedule “Out of the Office Hours” in coffee shops around the Association every month. I also have a base at the Conference office in DeForest. In addition to staffing the Southwest Association I have Conference-wide responsibility for the Community of Practice program that provides learning and support groups for authorized ministers.
Blessings, hope, and peace,
Rev. Joanne Thomson
